Jiao Hong, Director of the State Drug Administration (SDA), pointed out at this morning's series of press conferences on the theme of "Authorities Speak of the Beginning" held by the State Council Information Office that the SDA has been vigorously promoting the reform of the review and approval system for medicines and medical devices, and that the review and approval process has been continuously optimised, and that a large number of innovative medicines and medical devices have been approved for marketing. So far, a total of 130 innovative drugs and 217 innovative medical devices have been approved, and in the first half of this year alone, 24 innovative drugs have been approved and listed on the market, and a number of drugs for rare diseases, home-made extracorporeal membrane pulmonary oxygenation therapy (ECMO) and other high-level drugs and devices have been listed on the market, which can effectively meet the health needs of the people. The State Drug Administration has also promoted the establishment of a technical review standard system in line with the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, and approved 31 new Chinese medicines, helping traditional Chinese medicines pass on their essence and keep them innovative. The State Drug Administration has also pushed forward the consistent evaluation of the quality and efficacy of generic drugs, and a total of 615 varieties have passed the consistency evaluation, further meeting the people's demand for medicines.
